Junior Flute Day is for every student in kindergarten through 8th grade, their parents and caretakers, and all teachers! During the afternoon, students will enjoy playing together in a flute choir reading session. During the masterclass portion of the workshop, previously-chosen students will receive a mini-lesson from Ms. Bitticks while those observing will listen, watch, and get valuable information that can be applied to their own study. A flute choir performance will conclude the workshop.
No audition is required to be a recipient of a mini-lesson, but in order to receive one, a student must be both a KCFA member and be nominated by a KCFA member-teacher. To nominate a student or to inquire about the process, please email Mary at kansascityflute@gmail.com at your earliest opportunity.
Junior Flute Day is not a drop-off event. Parents/caregivers are expected to stay at the workshop with their young flutist.
Schedule of Events:
1:30-3:30pm - Students events
3:30-4:30pm - Teacher Enrichment Session (free for all college/university students!)
While in-person attendance is very highly encouraged, an online option will be available for those who can't physically attend. The online option is only available for observation purposes and online attendees will not be interacting with the guest clinician. If you require an online option you need to email kcfluteassociation@gmail.com no later than October 1st.
Altus Artist Meret Bitticks maintains an active schedule as a soloist, chamber musician, and clinician in the U.S. and abroad. Based in Chicago, Ms. Bitticks is a registered Suzuki Flute Teacher Trainer who nurtures a large flute studio at the Music Institute of Chicago and is on faculty at Lake Forest College and DePaul University.
Ms. Bitticks believes quality music instruction can only break down barriers when it is available to every person, regardless of age or economic background. With this in mind, she worked with foster children through DePaul’s Pathways program and has also been a tuition-free Conservatory instructor for the Merit School. She regularly volunteers at summer music camps in Haiti such as the ones for the Ecole de Musique Sainte Trinite and Ecole de Musique Dessaix Baptiste. Ms. Bitticks joined the board of BLUME Haiti, an organization that works to develop leadership skills, create opportunities, and promote economic development through music education.
This appearance of Altus Flute Artist, Meret Bitticks, has been made possible in part through an educational grant from Altus Flutes.
